The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team might be building a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
